The Meetings We Don't Plan

I recently had an unexpected surprise. While researching an article, I came across an image of someone I recognised from a group I was part of as a teenager. I have never forgotten this particular individual, and so I reached out. I was thrilled when they responded.
There is something special in reuniting and reconnecting with people with whom we have lost contact, whether it is to reminisce old times or to see how their lives have unfolded since you last knew them. Therein lies the potential to rediscover old memories, hear about their journey, and realise you've both changed. Or stayed the same.

Certain people leave imprints on us, even if years pass without contact. It never ceases to amaze me how life can lead us back to certain people when we least expect it. Had I not been researching that article, I wouldn't have made my discovery.
There are the encounters I have actively avoided -- the times I saw someone I knew and turned the other way, not wanting to engage in a conversation about my life. The serendipitous moments make me wonder: how often have we narrowly missed such encounters? Or does life store them up for when we really need them?
